Tangle Shuriken

This is my second tangle and it is dedicated to my Japanese students.

“Hira Shuriken” is a Japanese hand blade or throwing weapon. It is a circular disc with 3, 4, 5 and 8 edges with a hole in the centre. The art of wielding the Shuriken is known as Shurikenjutsu and is a part of Martial Arts curriculums in many schools of Japan today.

I was inspired by an anime character, Genji Shuriken, in a computer game “Overwatch”. He uses a 3 sided “Hira Shuriken” blade as his primary, long distance throw weapon.

The image below shows Genji with a supersized “Star Shuriken”. Though the weapon is actually palm sized, its importance basis its deadly effectiveness is expressed by the increased size in the image.

Tangle Shuriken Pattern Examples

I have used the 3 sided shuriken as a repeatable geometric pattern in a grid which is to be drawn with a pencil. The vertical lines of the grid have one more line between the main lines.

When multiple Shuriken’s are drawn symmetrically, they look as if they are in motion towards a target.
